The Challenge

Abwaab needed to build a comprehensive e-learning platform serving over 2 million students across 6 MENA countries with varying curricula, languages, and educational standards. The platform needed to support live classes, recorded content, quizzes, and personalized learning paths — all while working reliably on low-bandwidth connections common in rural areas.

Multi-Country Scale

Each country — Jordan, Egypt, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Pakistan — had unique curriculum requirements, different academic calendars, and varying internet infrastructure. The platform needed to handle peak loads during exam periods when millions of students access content simultaneously.

Our Solution

We built a complete end-to-end platform from scratch with an 8-person dedicated team. The solution included a Flutter mobile app, NextJS web application, Django backend, and a sophisticated ML engine for personalized learning recommendations.

AI-Powered Learning Engine

Using TensorFlow, we developed a recommendation system that analyzes student performance across topics to identify knowledge gaps and suggest targeted content. The system adapts in real-time based on quiz results and engagement patterns, contributing to the platform's 1.5 billion+ minutes of total watch time.

Technical Architecture

The platform runs on AWS with Kubernetes orchestration for auto-scaling during peak usage. Redis handles session management and real-time features, while PostgreSQL stores structured educational content with efficient full-text search.

Live Class Infrastructure

We implemented WebRTC-based live streaming with fallback to HLS for unstable connections. The system supports interactive whiteboards, real-time polls, and breakout rooms for group activities.
